Can non-Muslims visit Makkah or perform Umrah?
No. Makkah and the Haram area are exclusively for Muslims. This restriction is strictly enforced. Non-Muslims can visit other cities in Saudi Arabia, including Madinah (outside the Haram area), Jeddah, Riyadh, and AlUla.
How much does Hajj typically cost?
Costs vary widely by country and package level. Budget packages start around $4,000-6,000 USD, while premium packages with 5-star hotels near the Haram can exceed $15,000-25,000 USD. Book through licensed operators in your country.
When is the best time to perform Umrah?
Umrah can be performed year-round. The least crowded periods are typically January-February and July-August (outside Hajj dates). Ramadan is popular but very crowded. Shoulder months offer a good balance of pleasant weather and manageable crowds.
Do I need a special visa for Umrah?
Since 2019, holders of the Saudi tourist e-Visa can perform Umrah without a separate Umrah visa. You still need to register on the Nusuk app and book a permit. Citizens of some countries may still need a dedicated Umrah visa -- check with your local Saudi embassy.
