Day 1: Riyadh — Diriyah UNESCO & National Museum

Begin the heritage trail at Diriyah, birthplace of the first Saudi state. The At-Turaif UNESCO quarter features stunning Najdi mud-brick architecture. Salwa Palace, Diriyah Museum (SAR 50 combined). Brunch at Bujairi Terrace. Afternoon at the National Museum (free entry) — eight galleries from prehistory to the modern Kingdom. Evening at Souq Al Zal for antique Bedouin treasures.

Day 2: Riyadh to Al-Ahsa — UNESCO Oasis Civilisation

Drive 300 km east on Highway 40 to Al-Ahsa, the world's largest natural oasis and UNESCO World Heritage Site. Jabal Al-Qarah caves (SAR 25) — naturally cool at 20°C. Ibrahim Palace, Ottoman fortress. Date farm tour (SAR 30-50). Al-Hofuf Old Town. Hasawi red rice with lamb for lunch. This oasis has sustained civilisation for over 6,000 years.

  • Drive to Al-Ahsa (300 km, 3 hours)

Day 3: Fly to Ha'il — Jubbah Rock Art UNESCO

Fly from Dammam to Ha'il via Riyadh. Drive 90 km NW to Jubbah, where 10,000-year-old petroglyphs at Jebel Umm Sinman show ancient savannah life — camels, horses, ibex, humans. UNESCO World Heritage Site. Most travellers never reach this site. Ha'il's A'arif Fort and Qishlah Palace complete the day.

Day 4: Ha'il to AlUla — Hegra UNESCO

Drive 450 km SW to AlUla (5 hours). Arrive for the afternoon Dadan site (SAR 50) and Jabal Ikmah inscriptions. The 6:00 AM Hegra tour tomorrow, but first Elephant Rock sunset. Two UNESCO sites in two days — Jubbah's ancient art and Hegra's Nabataean civilisation, connected by the trade routes that once crossed this landscape.

  • Drive Ha'il to AlUla (450 km, 5 hours)
  • Enter the sandstone canyon landscape
  • Arrive AlUla midday

Day 5: AlUla — Hegra Sunrise & Full Exploration

The 6:00 AM Hegra sunrise tour (SAR 95) — 111 Nabataean tombs in amber dawn light. This is the crown jewel of the heritage trail and Saudi Arabia's first UNESCO site. After Hegra, Gharameel walk (SAR 65) and Maraya Concert Hall. Heritage Oasis walk through 7,000-year-old palm groves. Date farm tour. Harrat Viewpoint volcanic sunset.

Day 6: Fly to Jeddah — Al-Balad UNESCO

Fly to Jeddah (1.5 hours via connection). Al-Balad, the UNESCO-listed historic old town, is your fourth World Heritage Site. Coral-stone houses with mashrabiya balconies. Nassif House (SAR 20), Souq Al-Alawi. The heritage here is maritime — 400 years of Red Sea trading culture. Lunch at Hejazi restaurant (SAR 40-70). Corniche with sculpture museum. King Fahd Fountain at night.

Take the Haramain High-Speed Train to Medina (1h 45min at 300 km/h). For Muslims: Prophet's Mosque, Rawdah area. For all visitors: Souq Al-Tamour (150+ date varieties), Hejaz Railway Station Museum (free, Ottoman era), Mount Uhud, Dar Al-Madinah Museum (SAR 30). Medina has preserved heritage others demolished. Note: central Haram area restricted to Muslims only.

Morning at Quba Mosque (first mosque in Islam), Al-Awali old quarter, and the Hejaz Railway Station for a second look. Purchase Ajwa dates (SAR 80-200/kg), attar perfume, and Islamic calligraphy as heritage souvenirs. Your trail has connected 6 UNESCO sites and 10,000 years of Arabian civilisation — from Jubbah's petroglyphs through Nabataean tombs, Ottoman fortresses, and living Islamic heritage. Depart from Medina Airport.
