Saudi Arabia in October: Weather, Riyadh Season and Where to Go

October is when Saudi Arabia turns a corner. The brutal summer heat starts to ease, the country's biggest entertainment season has historically opened, and AlUla moves into its main visiting months. It is one of the better times to book a first trip, provided you know which region you are landing in - October still has real heat in the interior.

Riyadh Season's historical start

Riyadh Season, the capital's flagship entertainment programme, has opened in October every year since 2019 - the 2025/26 edition opened on 10 October 2025. AlUla's season gets going

AlUla's main visitor season runs roughly October through March, when temperatures make the outdoor sites - Hegra, Elephant Rock, the Sharaan reserve - comfortable to explore at length. October is the opening stretch of that window: still warm by day, cooling fast at night. If AlUla is the anchor of your trip, October through December is when the destination's own cultural season (concerts, exhibitions) tends to be most active.

Region by region: where October works best

Abha and the Asir mountains are the standout October choice - genuinely cool, green by desert standards, and outside the crowds that build later in the season. Riyadh is comfortable for city sightseeing by the second half of the month. The Red Sea coast (Jeddah, the resort islands) stays warm enough for swimming but the humidity is still noticeable - better for beach time than for walking Al-Balad at midday. The Eastern Province, including the Al-Ahsa oasis, is workable but still firmly warm.

What to book first

If Riyadh Season anchors your trip, watch the official calendar for the 2026/27 opening before locking hotel dates - rooms in the capital tighten fast once a season is confirmed.
