Why Saudi Arabia Is Safer Than You Think
Saudi Arabia consistently ranks among the safest countries in the Middle East for travelers. The Kingdom's Vision 2030 reforms have specifically prioritized welcoming international visitors, including solo women. Since the launch of the tourist visa in 2019, hundreds of thousands of women have visited independently without incident.
The Saudi cultural value of diyafa (hospitality) means that locals genuinely look out for visitors. It is common for Saudi women to approach foreign women in malls or restaurants to offer help, recommendations, or simply a warm welcome. Street harassment is rare compared to many popular tourist destinations globally, partly due to strict law enforcement and cultural norms around respect.
Major cities like Riyadh, Jeddah, and AlUla have modern infrastructure designed with safety in mind: well-lit public spaces, 24/7 security in malls and tourist areas, reliable ride-hailing apps, and international hotel chains with global safety standards. The Saudi Tourist Police (937 hotline) operates in English and Arabic specifically for visitor assistance.

Praktische Informationen
Transport
Fotografie
Fragen Sie immer um Erlaubnis, bevor Sie Einheimische fotografieren, besonders Frauen. Regierungsgebäude und Militäranlagen sind verboten. Touristensehenswürdigkeiten sind generell fotofreundlich.
Einheimische kennenlernen
Saudi Arabia's dress expectations have relaxed significantly. In major cities, you will see Saudi women in everything from traditional abayas to Western-style outfits. The key principle for visitors is modest coverage: shoulders and knees covered in public spaces. At resorts, beaches, and pools, swimwear is normal. There is no legal requirement for foreign women to wear an abaya or headscarf (except at mosques).
- ÔÇó Weite Oberteile, die die Schultern bedecken
